Capilano
Highlands
was originally developed in the 1940's. It was one of a number of
areas where returning servicemen could settle down and raise a family
in good starter homes. Today, it is one of the highest 'demand'
areas of North Vancouver.

terrain is gently sloped with southern exposure. The average home
is about 2000 sf on a 70' x 110' property.

(non-basement, one level) and 1950s
bungalows dot the streets. There are many post &
beam homes as well. Post & beams are the local adaptation
of the International style, sometimes known as the West Coast style.
The local version employs wood and glass and open floor plans.If you

last few years has seen the replacement of some of these older homes
by large, new homes that are between 3,500 sf and
5,000 sf.
- The
heart of the neighbourhood is Edgemont Village, where small shops,
banks and restaurants are clustered. A great place to see and be seen!

Village, walking distance from most of Capilano Highlands' homes,
offers variety and interesting shops along with a large food store,
restaurants and cafés. South on Capilano Road
takes you to the Upper Levels Highway (Trans-Canada
Highway 1). West on the Upper Levels takes you to West Vancouver's
Park Royal Shopping Centre. Heading further down Capilano Road
brings you to Marine Drive, a main commercial artery
on the North Shore. Driving east on Upper Levels, you reach Westview,
where there is a small shopping centre that includes a large food
store, a liquor store, a craft shop, a bank and other specialty shops.
