- Capilano
is a charming, smallish enclave. Developed after World War
II, it was designed, like the adjoining Capilano Highlands, to be
an area where returning servicemen could settle down and raise a family
in good starter homes. Most of the area consists
of gentle forested slopes and well established gardens. A feeling
of quiet and natural seclusion permeates the neighbourhood.

older bungalows have been upgraded or expanded over the years.
A wide number of 1200 sf rancher style homes (single level homes)
still exist.
- There
are no schools within Capilano itself. However the area is geographically
small and nearby areas such as Capilano Highlands, and Pemberton Heights
offer quality schools.
- Access
to Downtown from the Capilano area is by way of Lions Gate Bridge
and is very quick.
- Redevelopment
in the Capilano area, like the vast majority of the District of North
Vancouver, is subject to the Neighbourhood Zoning By-laws. (See

on Capilano Road takes you to the Upper Levels Highway
(Trans-Canada Highway 1) and west on the Upper Levels takes you
to West Vancouver's Park Royal Shopping Centre. Heading further
down Capilano Road brings you to Marine Drive, a main
commercial artery on the North Shore. Driving east, you reach Westview,
where a shopping centre including a large food store, a liquor store
and other shops can serve you. To the north, Edgemont Village,
awaits.
